Silverware for communion use at the Church of St. Michael and All Angels, Westoe, South Shields.

This started as a black and white conversion then I added a few layers and masks and managed to bring through some tiny areas of colour. Don't quite know if I like the end result.

Even though I may not be able to post daily, I always welcome your comments or critiques.

Don't like much the middle part of the picture. I don't know, there's something that tells me that it was better off with just the initial black and white conversion and probably tweak the contrast and brightness.

Maybe a bit of darkening the photo could bring out more of the middle part... coz it is seemingly the middle objects (cross, candle) fading to the background.

@grouser: Too busy really, it was a failure that I was trying to revive. A colour shot with rotten white balance caused by some awful electric lamps. Oh well, live and learn.

I kind of agree that some of the detail in the shot almost gets lost......maybe more contrast???!!?

There seems to be a lot going on in there, but I think the slight tint gives it added depth. Unusual and very interesting.

I agree with Grouser and love the detail (but IMHO, the saturation is neither colour nor mono and doesn't do enough...sorry)...have you considered mono & HDR?

Without black and white this shot would be screaming out color right now!
But this gives so much detail to the image and texture and lets you see the pieces individually and enjoy them. Incredible shot :)

@Lambspun: You haven't seen the colour version, the white balance was awful, even opening it as a RAW and trying to reduce the colour temperature still didn't leave it looking natural. All my fault I'm afraid.

Well, there is plenty of detail. I gues it is a trade off of detail against tone. The tone and detail at the top of the photo is great. It is a bit light for me at the bottom although the flowers have come out great.
