Sunset on TynePosted by Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 3 November 2009 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. Wasn't sure what to post today but eventually decided on this sunset taken a few days ago. William Wouldhave was the Clerk of St. Hilda's Parish Church when he won a competition to design a lifeboat, his Wikipedia page shows that he was the "Inventor of that invaluable blessing to mankind the Lifeboat". This is the Wouldhave Memorial between the North and South Marine Parks which houses "The Tyne" the second oldest surviving original lifeboat in the UK. "The Tyne" was built by J. Oliver of South Shields in 1833 and differed little from "The Original" built by Henry Greathead, also of South Shields, in 1789. "The Tyne" saved over 1000 lives in a sixty year career. Even though I may not be able to post daily, I always welcome your comments or critiques.
