Belgian F16 with decoys

Posted by Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 29 July 2010 in Transportation and Portfolio.

The Belgian F16 dropping its flares over Seaburn Beach during its display at the Sunderland International Air Show 2010.

I thoroughly enjoyed the event but unfortunately could only attend the first day, and so missed the RAF Red Arrows who flew on Sunday.

Dramatic stuff. Glad he hit the "Flare" button, not the one marked "Bomb"!

30 Jul 2010 10:17am

Henrik Herskind from Copenhagen, Denmark

Marvellous shot! What is the smoke from the "missiles" on the wings doing?

30 Jul 2010 10:48am

@Henrik Herskind: Nothing dramatic is my guess, just something by which the crowds can follow the jet in its high speed climb.

PRASHANT from Mumbai, India

Great...

30 Jul 2010 12:56pm

dotcompals from Palakkad, India

what is happening ?

30 Jul 2010 3:22pm

@dotcompals: The F-16 drops flares so that heat seeking missiles are diverted away from the heat of the exhaust gasses.
