£4.00

Posted by Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 30 December 2011 in Miscellaneous and Portfolio.

Just having a little macro fun here with the Takumar Pentax 50mm f1.4 stuck on the end of a set of extension tubes, hence no exif information.

Anybody able to tell me why a £2 coin looks so much like a Euro?

According to Wiki, up to 5% of £1 coins are counterfeit . . perhaps we should have kept the One Pound Note.

Bi-metallic coins are harder to forge, so tend to be used on higher denomination coins. Either that, or it's a Popish plot to merge the Euro with the Pound.

great shot - some of use wonder how long the euro will last - I thought it was the £1 coin not the £2 which was similar to the euro - they fit supermarket trolleys but I'm amazed how some folk seem to have tokens to use for these in place of genuine £1 coins.

I too have always questioned the similarity in the two pound coin, maybe because we're british that we still like to keep one foot on the mainland.

perhaps the designer was pro European. I think the bi metal design works well. Perhaps they could make a £3 coin with three metals:)

great dof and light, interesting details ... too bad i can't download them, too!
(many countries use bi-metal coins nowadays, but in the case of the 2-pound coin i suppose it's a not so sly attempt to get you brits used to the euro ... ;-))
