Queen Elizabeth ll, second time around

Posted by Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 26 March 2012 in Transportation and Portfolio.

Another look at the Cunard liner Queen Elizabeth ll as she passes the Groyne in South Shields on her final visit to the River Tyne.

It's not that I haven't shot any new images recently, I have quite a number in various stages of processing, just thought you might like to see some of these older archived images and see how the processing and presentation has changed. There is some nasty banding in the sky in this one, not quite sure how to recover that, long after the event, without completely replacing the sky.

Use control and your mouse scroll wheel to zoom the picture/page, then control and 0 to reset to normal size.

Even though I may not be able to visit or respond daily, I always welcome your comments or critiques.

As folks were saying in your previous, the sheer bulk comes across even more here - but still gracefully.

She truly is a lump and a half of a ship !! I like my boats a little smaller and a lot faster though (more fun) Cracking shot with nice light,a great advert for the old girl (not that old)

Beautiful light on her, Curly, and such a gorgeous ship. Just curious, is that banding in the original or did it become more evident after uploading to Am3 and undergoing another compression?

26 Mar 2012 10:50am

@Jason Politte: No, it's in the old original Jason.

...that's artifacting...but, it gives it that posterish look which is quite pleasant. Liner travel, brings back memories, 'tho haven't been on the QEII. The latest visitor we had here recently was the new Queen Mary, stayed for about half a day, missed seeing it! ;oD
