Entering Westoe VillagePosted by Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 28 April 2012 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio. Westoe Village in South Shields is a little hidden gem. It contains some of the largest properties in the area and in the past housed the great and good who fashioned the history of South Shields. Our first MP, former mayors and councillors, shipyard owners, industrialists, doctors and scholars, historians, cricketers, prime ministers - they all lived here. This is the entrance to the village with Southgarth West on the right, Southgarth was an enormous complex of dwellings which in the past was the home of the Readhead family, they were shipyard owners, industrialists and philanthropists who gave us an MP, a mayor, and left us a park for the public to enjoy.
