Southgarth

Posted by Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 29 April 2012 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

Westoe Village in South Shields is a little hidden gem. It contains some of the largest properties in the area and in the past housed the great and good who fashioned the history of South Shields. Our first MP, former mayors and councillors, shipyard owners, industrialists, doctors and scholars, historians, cricketers, prime ministers - they all lived here.

This is Southgarth, the former home of the Readhead family.

A fine place for sure . . makes me wonder how many 'hearths' it had seeing all those chimneys. Properties were taxed on those as I imagine you know.

I just realised South Shields is in the area where my favourite singer comes from - Bob Fox. He visits here sometimes - and sings about the Tyne. I like your shot!

Beautiful architecture that addresses the street nicely, rather than seeing the two or three-car garage that faces the street, which has been the typical mistake in the US as of late. Great colors and textures revealed in the HDR processing!
