Sleeping in the shadows.

Posted by Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 9 May 2012 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

This is Westoe Cemetery in South Shields, it is the oldest of the town's two municipal burial grounds and is the final resting place of many of our "founding fathers". It just doesn't seem to be kept to the same standard as Harton, possibly because this place is full, and it is unlikely to see any future burials.

Sadly Dr. Thomas Winterbottom's grave is virtually unrecognisable, yet he gave us a world renowned Marine College and Mariner's Cottages.

Three shot HDR made in Photomatix.

Umm, well, you probably won't like this comment...I think the HDR processing has added to much detail to the shot-there's just too much going on the "See the woods for the trees"

I really like the form and light of the tree in the midground but would agree somewhat with Chris. It feels very cluttered with my eyes not knowing where to look.

I like the interplay of light and shadow while the twisting shapes of the bare branches create a slightly menacing mood - I can imagine how this scene must look in moonlight!
