Springing to life

Posted by Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 19 May 2012 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

Part of a series of pictures where I have used a light touch Orton effect, this macro of some buds in a hedge was found in the West Park, South Shields.

These last three macro shots were done using an old Takumar Pentax 50mm f1.4 lens mounted on three extension tubes. Hence the lack of full exif details.

This image (and perhaps the Orton effect generally) forces your eyes to focus on a minimal part of the whole image, while still providing a nice bokeh as backdrop. Interesting photo.

I think of Orton as the 'poor man's HDR' ... and it still works better, sometimes than HDR IMO.
This is a great demonstration!

Nice! I used to use ortonish in Picnik, which no longer exist. It was a very good and easy place to edit your photos in the internet. I don't know how to make orton-effect in PSE. Help me, please? Is there a tutorial somewhere? Or an easy way to add orton with one click or so?

@Kristiina: Try this tutorial.
