Casualty on the Coast Road

Posted by Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 6 October 2009 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

The Great North Run is the world's largest half marathon and on Sunday 20th. September the 21st running of the event saw 54000 entrants completing the 13.5 mile course from Newcastle-upon-Tyne to the finish line in South Shields. Race organiser Brendan Foster, a former Olympian, thought that the 2009 Great North Run was the best ever.
This series attempts to tell a few short pictorial stories of the race, the organisation, the runners, and the spectators, on a day blessed with clear blue skies and warm weather.

Very nice shot. Tells a lot of story. Both resting and the running, two opposing actions in one picture.

cool pic

but :

1-if i were you, i would take this shot in color
2-the shadows up the screen could be more effective if they were completely in the shot

I think this shot shows frustration--She is injured and cannot keep going. Instead, she has to lay by the road and watch the others run by...

eddo from Toronto, Canada

Excellent concept. I love the contrast between runners off and on. I personally know the frustration of this type of situation, (although i think it could have been captured more through facial expressions or such - that said, I don't know if that was your objective here anyway).
I think cutting out the other runners keeps this shot personal, so I'm not sure if I would have preferred them all in the frame.
