River Nidd at Knaresborough

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 3 February 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

I'm getting a little fed up with winter now (unless we get a huge fall of snow to change my mind) so my thoughts are already turning to more summery themes.

Grabbed this one last year and it's a fine view of the boats on the River Nidd in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire with it's lovely railway bridge in the background - I can just imagine how this looked back in the days of steam!

A single RAW file tone mapped and converted for HDR in Photomatix, and I'm rather pleased with this one.

Everything about this photo is beautiful! The colors, contrast, depth and sharpness. I particularly like the bridge against the dark sky and the shiny boats in the foreground with the cute names.

A really like this photo. The contrast, tone and colours are very pleasing. I particularly like the boats tied together on the rive and the railway viaduct. You can just imagine a steam train going across that bridge many years ago. It must have looked fantastic. The chap on the bottom right has a prime position. A nice glass of white wine or a cool beer would finish it off.

Curly: Very nice job on HDR. The sunlight breaking through on the left brings nice light into the photo. One thing I did notice is: If the house in the background, beyond the bridge, was brought into sunlight I think your light would be more congruous and harmonious and believable, since it is facing the sun. Very nice.

Beautiful colours in the water, plus the boats leading the eye in and up to the bridge. If I had to find one small criticism it would be the guy in the bottom right. I didn't notice him at first, but now that I have I keep seeing him if you know what I mean.
