Lot's Wife and The Grotto

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 5 March 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Another picture taken in Marsden Bay, South Shields, this time looking towards the famous Marsden Grotto pub set below the cliffs with it's bars and lounges built into the ancient caves. The "stack" on the left is locally known as "Lot's Wife" because it resembles a pillar of salt.

Five shots at one stop intervals processed in Photomatix to produce this HDR.

Looks great, but I think that when you would tone the HDR a bit down it would look even greater. The purple sky is fantastic!

That's nice.. I like the framing by two rocks.. well saturated ... i think you over-sharpened and.. sky.. looks.. not natural.. When i'm still waiting for some photography :) heh/ :)

5 Mar 2010 3:20pm

@Gregory Kowalski: It hasn't been sharpened Greg, but there is evidence of some fringing along the edge of the two rock faces.

I really like the elongated view of the rocks like giant pillars framing the world just beyond. Your rock is golden, your sky smoldering, very emotional.
