The Dunes (HDR)

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 21 March 2010 in Business & Industry and Portfolio.

Inside The Dunes entertainment complex situated at The Ocean Beach Amusement Park in South Shields, flashing lights and noise - kerching!
So a big wild and wacky three shot HDR processed in Photomatix .
I couldn't resist the temptation to go a bit overboard with this one.

I just love the neon and entertainment complexes. They have that nostalgic atmosphere of itinerant circus. The floor and the giant hot dog are my favorites in the photo. An explosion of color and noise from the machines, however, the site is empty which makes it more interesting. It gives a feeling of old-fashioned.

@Sonia Nansid: When I approached the proprietor for permission to photograph it was granted on condition that I don't include any people, so it was a patient wait for this area to become clear.

Bettina from Los Angeles, United States

I agree with Sonia. Just copy me on her comment. The emptiness is great. Love the hot dog. Excellent deep colors.

Wow that carpet is sure loud. One can see how people are stimulated to pop money into the machines in that environment. Well captured.

I never noticed how similar an arcade's decor is with a casino. Bright flashing games, hideous carpet, and orange lighting and colors.

21 Mar 2010 10:28pm

JJ from Jersey City, United States

Going a bit overboard seems totally appropriate to me for any shot insde a casino, they sure go overboard on there own, super cool shot and processing

This shot is fantastic! For one thing....you didn't even get any people in it! How wonderful!!! :)
As for going overboard with the HDR....I can't even tell. Don't most places look like it anyway!! :)
