Under a weeping willow.

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 13 June 2010 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

The start of a seven day series showing you some scenes of the historic and beautiful city of Durham. For many years Durham was the administrative centre of the Palatine County and it's famous cathedral houses the remains of the northern saints Bede, Cuthbert, and Oswald. The cathedral is a UNESCO world heritage site and is perhaps the finest Norman building in Europe.

This is a view of the River Wear as it snakes around the mound where the cathedral and castle were built, an ideal spot for enjoying summer picnics.

A three shot HDR made in Photomatix.

Sonia Nansid from Stockholm, Sweden

An awesome place! I love the combination of blue and green, and the group of people adds a feeling of summer, outdoor pic-nics and holidays. The tones of green of the trees are outstanding. Speaking of green, one of my favorite colors, I felt very sorry for the Mr. Green yesterday.

13 Jun 2010 6:02am

@Sonia Nansid: Ouch! Yes it was a major faux pas.

wonderful shot graham.....looks like not much of a breeze.....a must for hdr, ey? really like the composition here......the picnic people really add to this....isn't it easy to just look right past the beauty that you pass on a regular basis? Nice to go back and see things, with fresh eyes.....

13 Jun 2010 2:03pm

@Susan: There was a gentle breeze hence the decision not to stop the lens down too far, I wanted the three shot auto bracketed burst to be at fairly high speeds.
