The Roman

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 24 June 2010 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

I'm still not done with this year's Medieval Fayre in Jarrow, there are a few more yet to see, including a couple of more birds.

Here's a rather imposing figure of a Roman soldier, his background was rather fussy and distracting so I've applied some heavy texturing to try and replicate a marble wall, and the main filtering in Photoshop was done by employing the Lucis Arts plug in.

Louis from Madrid, Spain

Nice one, however slightly oversharpened to my taste.

24 Jun 2010 7:23am

@Louis: I haven't sharpened at all, this may just be the effect of the plug in filter (I guess you are talking about the helmet area)

Anthony Morgan Lambert from Bielefeld(old West Wales boy), Germany

A medieval Roman, how interesting. He´s wearing a rather elaborate Centurian plume and by the way he´s wrapped up it must have been cold..

24 Jun 2010 8:46am

@Anthony Morgan Lambert: Yeah, I thought he was a bit late for his own show too!

Monique from Koh Samui, Thailand

Not only a great portrait but even the background is just perfect! Great post processing.

24 Jun 2010 9:16am

@Monique: The original background included a modern frame tent.

P J W Miller from Chase Terrace, United Kingdom

I like how you have cropped this image

24 Jun 2010 9:18am

@P J W Miller: It hasn't been cropped Peter, but if you stare at the background (the dark grey parts) you may just discern the shape of the square sectioned framework that held up the tent behind him. After making a mask, I set about working with a texture overlay and a few layers of paintbrush work to disguise the ugly tent.

nice shot good Hdr

24 Jun 2010 7:23pm

@Allan Clark: No HDR processing here at all Allan, it's just a Photoshop plug in filter and a texture overlay with a bit of paint added.

Viewfinder from Bradenton, FL, United States

Nicely processed; that wall could almost fool the casual eye into thinking it is marble or granite or something like that.
