I'm pretty short of new material at the moment, also pretty short of inspiration and motivation to go out and get it (I'm going through another of those blue periods.)

So for the next few days I'll be taking some time out, perhaps tramping around with my camera, if the legs and hips don't give up. I'll be posting some stuff from last year's archives which I wasn't able to squeeze in at the time, I'll try and get around a few of your blogs as and when I can but I will thank you generously here and now for all of your wonderful comments and words of encouragement.

Don't worry this won't be my last post, I ought to be back tomorrow and will shortly have some new material to share.

This post box is on the corner of the Market Place in South Shields, and that is the Old Town Hall at the back.

What is it about post boxes?. None of them, including the one at the ned of our road are upright! Do they only ever put them on quicksand?

23 Jan 2011 6:27am

@CElliottUK: Perhaps the photographer was falling over Chris? I do remember being on my haunches and close to putting my backside on the pavement lol:-)

Manuel Hompanera from La Robla, Spain

Buen punto de vista, con un DOF muy apropiado.Saludos.

Yeah, only American mailboxes stand straight up; that is unless some drunk ran over it while making a turn. LOL!

23 Jan 2011 8:05am

@J.R.: Maybe the photographer was acting like some drunk?

Sonia Nansid from Barcelona Stockholm, Sweden

Lovely DOF and excelent processing.

Nigel from Avening, United Kingdom

Often thought of taking a series of pics of post boxes - there are still a few Victorian ones around.....you've inspired me !

23 Jan 2011 8:40am

@Nigel: I wanted to show some age here Nigel, so I resisted the temptation to show its full on red colour scheme.

piet from Bruges, Belgium

enjoy your break ... don't worry about it, moments of distance and silence are an essential part of evolution in the creative process
I'm used to take them before I feel the urge or the emptyness ... helps a lot
anyway, we will always find your mailbox :-))

Compared with our ugly yellow mailboxes, this is a really classy style. Fits well to the surrounding architecture. Great compo!

A classic emblem of of the British Isles. One day we may not be able to take these photos as they will deem them too expensive to maintain

Ugh! I hate those blue periods (but I like the song from the Smithereens) - I know how that is. I like the process on this. It doesn't look like it holds much mail - but I guess nowadays that doesn't matter.

Take care of the old bod curly and look after yourself. I do look everyday but most people have said what i think! Nice post box, quite modern as there is no embossed royal crest, nice effect.

I like use of the color of the mailbox with a black and white background. Take it easy. I always look forward to your pictures.

Timeless, it could have been yesterday or a hundred years ago. I like the background B/W it makes the mailbox important, otherwise it probably would just be another mailbox.
