Cleadon Mill #4

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 25 April 2011 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Number four in a series of five HDRs featuring the old mill on Cleadon Hills, South Shields.

It was one of those days when the sky looked perfect for some dramatic HDRs so I took the tripod for a slog up the hills to photograph the old ruined windmill. Had a nice chat with another photographer from Hebburn who was also shooting frames for Photomatix work, we had to wait until a large group of ramblers passed through before being able to make our shots.

A wonderful HDR image of the mill, but surprising that you set it dead center. The clouds do seem to revolve around it, so it works. ;D

Hi Curly - I just reviewed your past four images of this series, as I have been out of touch. Each one of them is just outstanding. I really am impressed by the crisp clean and TASTEFUL manner in which you have employed the HDR software in the images..(much like our friend Steven in Chicago). I think that your artistic knowledge and touch are just perfect. I realize that HDR can evoke long and hearty discussions that get into sub-topics about "artists license" or "does it look more real than real?" *(my personal favorite)...but, all of that is stuff for long discussions at another time - All I can say here is that your images are always just outstanding and I learn something each time I view them. Moreover, they all tell a story and that is wonderful! I think this is just truly beautiful and wonderfully-composed and treated! All the best - sorry for the diatribe ;-)

I have been away on Easter leave a few days, and it's always fun to look at your blog when I get home. What a nice series of the old mill you have taken with your Pentax. If I were to choose one of these (though all are really good) so I choose number three. It is a wonderful foreground with the fence drag me into the photo. A
real contest photo.
