Red temptresses

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 2 September 2011 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

I think the telephone wires distract in this picture but I couldn't be bothered trying to clone them all away, I must be getting lazy in my old age.

2 Sep 2011 7:49am

Ronnie 2¢ from Atlantic Shores, United Kingdom

Truly an ace event and I admire how you accepted the difficult light and made it part of the entertainment in this series. The wires do not bother me because they somehow add to the time-distortions of the moment.

2 Sep 2011 8:00am

Hiro from Kyoto, Japan

Even the wires are not removed, this is great shot, Curly !

2 Sep 2011 8:00am

CElliottUK from Reading, United Kingdom

Cool shot! And you know what I think about telephone /electricity cables, so I won't bore you brainless by grinding that particular axe!

2 Sep 2011 10:03am

Stephen from Canberra, Australia

These festival shots comprise a super series, Curly! The shiny road surface gives a splendid effect with the fiery red.

2 Sep 2011 10:21am

Dan Stevens from Reading, United Kingdom

Nice shot, Curly. I don't think the telegraph wires are much of a distraction. I wouldn't have bothered to clone them out. Instead I would have just cropped to top and right edges. There'd still be a vertical wire, but I doubt many viewers would notice.

2 Sep 2011 10:32am

janina from Melbourne, Australia

Well, curly, you do have a crop facility...agree with dan stevens, but crop the right a little further in and to the top of the main front figure on stilts. Next time, eh?! Good shot, BTW! ^)^

k@ from Paris, France

I'm a great fan of this serie, you could post zillions, they are all so good & impressive !

These 'stilt people' are a talented bunch ... GREAT color!

2 Sep 2011 12:41pm

El pare from Prepirineu, Andorra

More distracting to me are the lights of the cars that telephone wires.
The image is beautiful.

2 Sep 2011 2:06pm

Doug from Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom

Great shot, I wonder why there are not more people watching it looks like a fantastic show.

2 Sep 2011 2:30pm

@Doug: All of the people tend to follow on behind the parade Doug, and by the time they reach their destination there are thousands behind them for the fireworks. Alas I couldn't get a good position for a shot of those.

The Mouse from Glasgow, United Kingdom

Wonder what their health and safety form reads?
Great series from here and i for one don't mind the wires, just part of life.

2 Sep 2011 2:38pm

Steven from Chicagoland, United States

An interesting streetperformance that you've captured with great light. I love how others are also spotted trying to capture this act on their phones. ".....old age"? Here I thought you were a young soul. :-)

2 Sep 2011 2:49pm

Tede from Aubenas 07, France

Wow! great image, not easy to walk on stilts!! Good day.

2 Sep 2011 2:59pm

DULCIE from Danville, CA, United States

Beautiful and dynamic. There is a wonderfully strangely cast red light. Fun to see the contrast in appearance between the performers and the observers.

2 Sep 2011 3:15pm

Rick from Toronto, Canada

Nicely surreal! The wires don't intrude overly, in my humble opinion, and sometimes a street shot should just be what it was, visually. Great shot, Curly.

2 Sep 2011 3:51pm

Tomek from Poznań, Poland

Great photographed street fun. Fantastic light.

2 Sep 2011 4:08pm

M@ndy from London, United Kingdom

blummin brilliant (I'm with you with the cake eating scene - all the females in my family turnout round; whilst the men remain stick thin - where's the justice)

2 Sep 2011 4:10pm

dean musgrove from Simi Valley, United States

With the spectators in the scene, I then prefer the wires being included. It's an aspect of street documentary photography that gives the image time and place.

2 Sep 2011 4:20pm

Calusarus from St Sorlin en Valloire, France

It reminds me Giacometti statues

2 Sep 2011 4:22pm

impressive exif data and an impressive result! i very much like the colour scheme here - so much blue and then the red!

2 Sep 2011 6:53pm

Uistnomad from North Uist, United Kingdom

Nice photo - I like the colours. I'm surprised Health and Safety didn't want flags on the wire so that the stilt walkers didn't walk into them

2 Sep 2011 8:29pm

Christel from Köln, Germany

Good evening Curly,
an interesting topic with fantastic colors. The picture is a stunner. Have a nice time, all the best and health.

The dusk light is stunning! And telephone wires are a fact of life (for a little while longer). In a few years, they will look quaint.
