For Flt. Lt. Egging

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 15 October 2011 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

The Red Arrows are almost a permanent fixture at the Great North Run, there was shock, sadness, and prayers following the tragic death of one of their number, Flt. Lt. Jon Egging who was killed during one of their routines the previous month. It was feared that the RAF Red Arrows would not be visiting South Shields this year.
Those fears were allayed, and Flt. Lt. Egging's brave widow cheered the runners off at the start line in Newcastle before joining in the 13.1 mile run herself. The Red Arrows provided an eight man fly past at the Tyne Bridge and a truncated display at the finish line in South Shields.

Event: Great North Run

Yep, although the airplanes dominate the picture, and rightly so, the runners and the activity below give a sense of balance between what we can do with our bodies on the ground, run and walk and build and what we can do with our minds, creating such complex machines as airplanes. Great shot, tells stories.
