It is not about the new iPad, iPod,iPhone,iMac, or PS3, nor is it about the amount of food we will consume or throw away after a few days, it is not about how much money will be spent in the shops, or how the local economy might be temporarily boosted, neither is it about the new 42" plasma screen television, or the big label shoes and clothing, it is not about the consumption of alcohol, the big party or the wild dinner and dance, it is not about the commercial opportunities and corporate greed.
It is about a child, the new born, the new life, a celebration of over two thousand years of Christianity, a symbol of seemingly everlasting faith and belief.
It is about giving and sharing, it is about the family unit, it is about the more simple things that bring joy in life, it is all about giving to those who are less fortunate, it is about thinking and doing something about the homeless or sick and those without work, it is about benevolence and thinking of our fellow humans.
This picture is of children at Mortimer Primary School, South Shields giving their annual nativity play in Westoe Methodist Church, and was taken at the invitation of their headmaster. Processed in Nik Color Efex.
My family and I wish you all a joyous and happy Christmas Day.
