Central Arcade #3

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 27 January 2012 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

Not quite sure what I think about this one, I was trying to get some selective focus on the elaborate decoration surrounding the Grey Street entrance to Newcastle's Central Arcade with a wider aperture. You will also see the little twist and turn that I alluded to yesterday.
I guess it did the job, but I'm not sure about the visual impact.

Typical Photomatix HDR processing for this shot.

PENTAX K100D 1/125 second F/5.6 ISO 800 18 mm

I really like the hyper-realism of the details in all of these HDR photos. I think your choice of subject matter is great

I think I prefer yesterdays shot which appeared to have more clarity, if I remember from the first one, these HDR shots were hand held, and yesterdays a single shot. A great composition and fascinating subject though

I like the effect!

Hmm, this is tricky because so much is in or close to focus. I wonder about the BW version, but I guess that's harder to visually separate then...

Think I also prefer yesterday's. Although there is no denying the unusual subject and processing. Well worth the effort.

I really love those places, their decoration, and the mood it delivers. Could have been a perfect setting for the last Scorcese's movie Hugo Cabret.

Yes, the ornate entrance is very worthy of your selective focus. At f/5.6, the depth of field looks just about spot on for what you set out to achieve. Terrific foreground interest as well with the tile pattern.

A beautiful capture of this very beautiful arcade. The selective focus works very well in this image and as I see it the focus is on the detail of the front of the entrance which is where you want it with all the beautiful detail. Beautifuly processed. Thank you for your comment and advise on the panning it is much appreciated.

I am not sure that this really works for me Curly! The foreground has a slightly contrived feel to it! A brave effort nonetheless! ;-)

good architecture and excellent view. treatment I think you did very good. and at times I doubt if it is a photo, a drawing or painting, but what if I'm seeing is the artist's creativity. very nice curly. a kiss. Alejandra
