Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 24 May 2012 in Art & Design and Portfolio.

Part of a series of pictures where I have used a light Orton effect, and I thought these turned out well in black and white.

This is part of the public artwork "Conversation Piece" situated next to the Groyne lighthouse in South Shields. The installation consists of 22 copper-bronze statues near the sand dunes at Littlehaven Beach, South Shields. Designed by Spanish artist Juan Munoz they have been a talking point for the last few years. Oddly, from a distance you can never be sure who is talking to who – human or statue!

Of all the photos in this series I like this best. The relationship between the two statues has a touch of personification because of your composition. Well done.

Interesting for sure kind of an other worldly feel to it.

They have an inflatable quality to them that makes me wonder if the originals were blow ups that had moulds taken from them

Again, so curiously communicative for what they are ! And notice I was not prompted to type ". . what it is "!

Just seeing it reminded me a similar group of statues in Barcelona, by the same artist. Undoubtedly this is his style.

@El pare: Yes, they are identical, certainly a signature style.
