Derwent Reservoir

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 14 September 2012 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Just wished I'd had a step ladder to angle the camera down a little to take advantage of those lead in lines in the field.
That's the trouble with being "vertically challenged".

You really are the master at processing... such a light touch, but such an awesome effect! Like soft details.... the tones of the stones and sky have me here.

14 Sep 2012 5:46am

@Mooie: I wish we could show these much bigger in AM3, like full screen!

Richard from Ellemford, United Kingdom

Great processing (to me the horizon is a little squint)

14 Sep 2012 7:30am

@Richard: It has a pronounced bend in it Richard! I'm trying to create (or download) a lens profile for Adobe Camera RAW which will allow me to correct this lens distortion in one click, rather than having to do it manually all the time.

ursulakatariina from Leixlip, Ireland

Beautiful view.

I have the same issue Curly, that is VC, nevertheless it still looks good

14 Sep 2012 8:00am

@P J W Miller: Do you want to go halfers on a large step ladder Peter?

Riccardo from Rome, Italy

Yes a tripode will help in this situation.. But you've done a great job.. don't worry!!

14 Sep 2012 8:15am

@Riccardo: I need a tripod that is three metres tall :-)

Phil from Sausset les Pins, France

Lines give a spectacular perspective , Phil

14 Sep 2012 8:24am

@Phil: The potential was there for a much netter shot, just needed to be three feet higher!

Ronnie 2¢ from Atlantic Shores, United Kingdom

Your admission does shadow the enjoyment of the image because, yes, I can imagine what the 3-Meter tripod, rocket boots and one-click stabilization would do for it !

14 Sep 2012 9:44am

@Ronnie 2¢: The rocket boots might be a problem Ronnie, I don't have a pilot's licence :-)

J.R. from Urasoe City, Japan

I love the old gate and gate posts as well as the rest of the picture, your process is always great:)

Anthony Morgan Lambert from Bielefeld(Old West Wales Boy), Germany

Either get up on somebodys shoulders or get a mono pod and hold it high !! Any horizon tilt can be corrected later... or carry a blow up stepladder with you all the time :-)
It´s still a cracking image..

14 Sep 2012 10:06am

@Anthony Morgan Lambert: Perhaps a large helium balloon on a string using the self timer might be an option?

Jules from Drayton, United Kingdom

a majestic view - and I would urge you to add that step ladder to your extensive camera bag or push the boat out and get yourself a mobile cherry picker :)

14 Sep 2012 10:12am

@Jules: That's the answer! I wonder what the fuel economy is like?

Nazzareno from Rome, Italy

14 Sep 2012 10:22am

It's a lovely shot, but I see what you mean - being about 10 feet higher would've made a great POV. Nicely done, Curly.

Interesting about your comment to Mooie. I bleated at Jason that I would like to see a feature where there should be an icon that the viewer could click and that the image was shown at the posted resolution (Say 1600*1200)...he ignored my bleating....
