The conductor

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 20 December 2012 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

OK I couldn't resist posting another picture of Miss E.M. the conductor of Mortimer Primary School's Christmas Carol concert which was held at Westoe Methodist Church in South Shields.

Having struggled with a position in the upper gallery about thirty five yards away from the front, in a dark church using fairly high iso speeds to keep the shutter speed up, I eventually settled on around 20 shots of this dedicated teacher conducting the choir. She was fascinating to watch, so very animated and in complete control of her charges. They responded entirely to her hand gestures with immaculate behaviour. E.M. is one of those teachers that need to be treasured, dedicated to education, passionate about improving children and changing lives, and with a very caring personality.

I hope you enjoyed the set a couple of days ago.

I've got my nose to the grindstone at work right now, so comments and visits will be scarce until the weekend I'm afraid.

As a teacher I can assure you that many times we do this fuss against students. The word gesture complete the teacher's role. Much more if it is the primary ... A good image "caught" ... Good work!
Put your nose deep into your work but booking something for the rest ...! A hug, Adela

spectacular capture of the moment! if i didn't know she was conducting a children's choir - a rather peaceful and not very dangerous endeavour as such - i would have thought she's just seen a giant snake or some other horror scenario ... ;-)

This is so hilarious Curly. I just finished directing a little choir last night, though I let the pianist lead us mostly. Believe it or not, choirs need direction. The singers just show up like children and give their all, but follow the antics and emotions of the director. Watch a symphony conductor. Phew! What emotion. Still this just cracks me up, and I will share with my choir members. Happy Christmas to you Curley!!!!
