Laurel and Hardy

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 22 December 2012 in Cityscape & Urban and Portfolio.

A nicely decorated house in Benton Road, South Shields - think of the "leccy" bill eh?

Have you found them?

A power company to thank. Still it is true that Christmas is a mid-winter light into the darkness of the importing party. That's why it's great that sytytellään lights everywhere.

I see more than just Laurel and Hardy, I think it is a cowboy and a large ball, I guess that is decoration they have all year around? Or is that part of the Christmas decoration as well?

22 Dec 2012 9:52am

@Ank: Well spotted! Yes, many of these decorations and ornaments are in place all year round at this house.

grouser from Ludlow, United Kingdom

I see their glowing eyes. A severe attack of midwinter madness here or delightful eccentricity
I trust they are run on solar power and not mains electricity :)

22 Dec 2012 10:37am

@grouser: There's a man inside riding an exercise bike to drive the dynamo!

grouser from Ludlow, United Kingdom

He must have thighs like tree trunks

Lights bright colors ... the holidays of economic excesses ... and for a few extraordinary power that makes us tummy ache! Finally, the Feast of Light ... if religious celebrate Christmas ... Best regards, Adela

Great, these colorful lights. Oliver Hardy and Stan Laurel are known to me. These two comedians brought us again and again with her, mostly curious, experiences, to laugh.

Nice capture, although I enjoy the sentiment I resist doing similar outside our house, my better half would have it challenge the local lighthouse if I agreed !

Great shot, but I wouldn't like to live anywhere close to a house with so much outdoor lights!

Not my cup of tea I'm afraid - there are without a doubt some beautifully decorated and illuminated houses across the country but sadly they are outnumbered by all the "tacky" ones. Less is more is a good philosophy. Good frame in low light though.

CElliottUK from Reading, United Kingdom

There's a guy who lives in a very upmarket road a couple of miles from us-He has so many lights that he decks his house with that he has a permanent 3-phase supply on the outside of his house. Loads of people come to see it. The neighbours hate it! They've tried injunctions, abuse to him, abuse to the people who visit him. They even tried to do the motorists for "curb crawling" People now go to see much abuse they are going to get as much as see the lights!!!

JUST COS I THINK IT'S A BIT TACKY IT DOESN'T MEAN THAT IT CANNOT MAKE A GOOD PHOTOGRAPH.

22 Dec 2012 9:56pm

Alun from cheshire, United Kingdom

There really going for it, nice one, but Laurel and Hardy

23 Dec 2012 12:15am

Elaine Hancock from Rockville, United States

Very colorful! We have some streets here where the neighbors try and outdo each other with the amount of lights they have put up. It gets to be like a circus!

23 Dec 2012 1:53am

aaanouel from Heredia, Costa Rica

Lighting isn't the main part of the bill so it isn't representative, here in Costa Rica are many houses decorated that way... and much more!
