The Port of Tyne is probably the biggest business operating in South Shields and Jarrow with a huge logistics and warehousing operation. Apart from having millions of cubic footage of storage and a massive fleet of 40 footers to deliver imports around the UK, it is also the terminal for shipping thousands of cars from the nearby Nissan plant in Washington to Rotterdam for onward sales to continental Europe and beyond.
This is the City of Rome, one of a small number of roll on roll off ships that carry the vehicles across the North Sea almost on a daily basis. I'd love to be able to film the "car jockeys" as they manoeuvre the various vehicles in the ships hold with barely inches to spare in between them, they are highly skilled and specialised drivers.
