One man and his dog

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 8 March 2013 in Documentary & Street and Portfolio.

They stood there for an age, perhaps waiting for the wife to return from one of the shops. The dog just surveyed everyone as though they were sheep.
Shot on Elvet Bridge in Durham City.

He is standing in front of a shop where a woman could easily spend hours. :)

I'm trying to imagine this without the highways' signage and there's likely a sign about dogs, too - what a blight this has become.

Good frame of everyday life

It is the destiny of man(and specifically a married man) to be "Parked" outside shops whilst the Memsahib goes shopping. The dog is thinking "I thought this was called "walkies" not "Sitties and get boredies"

Once again I have to agree with Chris, standing and waiting for the wife to finish shopping can be a bore:)

Lovely detail - the man and his dog just seem to stand out from the crowd.

Doug from Burnham-on-Sea, United Kingdom

Great street scene Curly. I know what Chris means, but then at least he's not being dragged into the shop to answer the question that all men dread, knowing they are highly unlikely to get it right, "How does this look on"

Really excellent street shot, Curly. Love that guy standing outside with the dog.

A nice street scene, really good compo but I have to wonder about the name of the shop where he´s waiting (or did I miss something ?)

I love the feel of this watchful street scene, with so much detail to hold the eye. The time of day, the outstanding pale yellow of the dog, and the patience of the man, and the warmth of light from within the shop. The ageless seeming layers of stone on the road. The crowd of folks beyond and a church spiral. The solid steps on the right and the open freeing expanse of that lovely sky. Just love this. 5 cobbles for you.

A street shot full of stories - all those signs, for one. I agree the shop they are in front of could occupy a woman for a long time.

I have stood on that same spot waiting for SWMBO only to make a painful discovery that my lens had been blitzed by the Tynemouth spray from day before...it was a lesson learned.

These pedestrian streets are amazing to me ... we don't have very many of them in our area of the US. There is so much to see in this wonderful image.
