Cold misery

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 1 April 2013 in People & Portrait and Portfolio.

First of all thank you to all of those who have been sticking by me this past couple of months, it has not been easy finding time to post a daily picture but your thoughts and good wishes for my wife have helped me to sustain some sort of output. She is now in the midst of a second series of radio therapy at Newcastle's Freeman Hospital and, although her cancer is still terminal, she is feeling much happier in herself and can, for now, swallow and eat. I am sorry that for the moment I cannot make time to visit and comment on your pages, but I'm sure I will return sometime in the future.

I did manage to take a few pictures over the past week, none of which I would call truly remarkable, but at least they document some of the things happening in my life here in South Shields.

This is the Mayor and Mayoress of South Tyneside on the steps of the old Town Hall in South Shields Market Place. The Mayor, Cllr. Eilleen Leask was delivering her address at the 162 nd. annual Procession of Witness on Good Friday. Turnout from the Sunday Schools and youth religious groups was a little lower than usual - something to do with the rather cold weather!
No wonder we see four miserable faces here.

I want to wish her the easier times. Her fight is the most severe that no one will face. The people in the picture are not very happy looking. I also will not be. Miserable weather.

Does look a glum moment, Curly. Winston on the left of shot looks like he's just got bad news from Stalin.

Haha! My first thought was "Cold War - Russians reviewing military parade", then I saw Ronnie's comment, and realised that I was in the wrong country!

Excellent capture. I like the expression of the lady on the left, and the fact that all characters seem to be away from each others, looking at different places...

I very much like this image. Great expressions and atmosphere, even if it is chilly! Three out of four look grumpy, but the Mayor seems to be taking things in stride.

I haven't met you in person, Curly, but admire your photography and straightforward helpful candour when commenting, and as such I now often send my thoughts your way. Thanks for sharing the news about your wife, and our fingers are crossed for continued reduced discomforts and as much quality of life as can be provided for all of you going forward. This shot speaks volumes about the tenacity of Winter and its grip upon much of Europe. Great faces and expressions.

Witnesses on Good Friday should be glum ... and this is over the top! ;D

This second session will be another trial for everyone, but with your wife's improved level of happiness, and ability to eat, you can hopefully see a few more smiles from her. Please know my thoughts and prayers continue!
