Silent sentinel

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 1 June 2013 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

The Groyne lighthouse on the edge of Littlehaven Beach, South Shields, has been there from before the time that the two piers were built to form the harbour on the River Tyne. It was erected to warn the old wooden hulled ships of the treacherous rocks preventing safe entry into the river mouth.
This was shot in dense fog and a textured overlay applied in post processing.

I love the gritty feeling that the textures provoke, I can really feel the sea air and the mood of a misty beach. I love the little stories that these small buildings provide...old disused or still in use, these things have generations of stories attached to them...
