Portrait of Alison Wheeler who could have been one of the New Beautiful South , but ended up as just The South, the pop band that evolved from the original Beautiful South - if you follow my drift.
They performed in a free concert at the Bents Park, South Shields yesterday admirably supported by Toploader who Danced in the Mooonlight. It is reported that over 17,500 people filled the park on an odd afternoon where the sky was overcast and grey down on the sea front, yet just a few hundred yards inland at the Town Hall the sky was bright blue and the temperature was steaming hot!
A bit like Alison Wheeler really - she's A Perfect Ten, which The South played to perfection. I'm not a fan of their bubble gum pop genre, but generally I was entertained and enjoyed the afternoon.
More pictures to follow later during the week.
Next Sunday's free concert in South Shields features The Christians and Rick (Rickroll) Astley - I'll be covering the Sunderland International Air Show instead, I'm sure you'd make that desision too.
