Plastic pints

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 25 October 2013 in Sport & Recreation and Portfolio.

This is Westoe RFC vs Waterloo played at Woods Terrace, South Shields.
Westoe Rugby Club have been a permanent fixture in South Shields since 1875, they share the ground with South Shields Cricket Club, Woods Terrace also offers tennis and squash.
Westoe currently play in the National League Third Division North and sit around mid table. Their biggest drawback is that they only have the one pitch, despite having four senior teams and a number of colts and junior teams (who need to hire pitches from South Tyneside District Council).

It is about a 60 yard walk from the clubhouse to the stand, so most of the half time is spent in motion, not much time left to sink that pint. We can also see that the Elfin Safety Police have been at work ordering the club to serve pints in plastic pots rather than traditional glasses. After all who knows what might happen amongst these huge crowds of twenty or thirty??

Plastic pints are horrible, but still useful in many situations.

Funny picture, in the middle of the man seems to be highly concentrated and tense! Plastic mug is not nice, but in many places it is good, not broken glass which may offend! :-))Haleja

Happy Friday to you ,my good friend Curly!

Excellent perspective along the terrace. The beer in hand and blue jeans capture the mood perfectly. Yes - a shame a small group like this have to suffer the same rules as apply to much larger crowds.

The world is a terrible place. Beer is packaged in small tin cans and plastic pints served. What might still come up with the human suffering of the increase.

Wonderful use of selective colouring Curly! His body language indicates that he is fully immersed in the action! ;-)

The person on the left looks like an extra from Dr Who with a mouth like that.
As for the plastic glasses, i can cope with them at a sportsground, i've seen to many angry fans to let them have glass.
Nice series, you really have captured club rugby beautifully.

Superb image Curly
The Elfin Safety get everywhere, my problem is with these plastic glasses is that I get a bit over charged and find myself getting wet because I've squeezed them in excitement, at least that's what I tell everyone when they notice my wet trousers ;-))

I love your use of the word "pots" here! Excellent selective focus on this guy. This guy looks like he's been "holding it" and has no plans on going to the bathroom until later. :-)

Wonderful use of selective color! I never heard the term plastic pots before but I rather like it! I am surprised that there are no women watching the game.

excellent processing here, curly! but what i like best is the less than ambiguous pose of the "colourful" gent ... i guess he urgently wants to be somewhere else but can't tear himself away ... ;-)))
