Still digging through my archives, as caring for my wife is preventing me from gathering new material.

She just said goodbye to a very old friend on Monday and is feeling a little bit down. Terrible coincidences, they both met in a maternity ward and delivered their first child on the same day and became instant friends, then discovered that they lived no more than twenty yards apart! Their second children were delivered within the same week four years later, and both later discovered that they had cancer. All four children went to the same school and remain firm friends too. Michelle died peacefully in her sleep, aged 44, after being in very good health right up until the night before.

This little macro is just some lichen growing on my back wall here in South Shields.

Like the lichen handing onto the rock, we hang onto life for as long as we can.
Friendships like your wife and Michelle experienced are a precious gift. How sad that they come to an end ... but in time ... they do. Forty-four years is too short a time by human standards. ;(

Wonderful focus and so sorry to hear about the loss of a friend. Having lost my mother to cancel when I was two years old I understand the effects it has on others.

Beautiful light and textures in this macro shot Curly! A very heartwarming story to go with it. Lichen is a survivor that manages to thrive in the most desolate environments! ;-)
