The body of Christ

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 7 May 2014 in Art & Design and Portfolio.

Sorry, I somehow managed to miss out this final picture taken at the Great North Passion event in the Bents Park, South Shields on Good Friday 2014. It was my favourite piece, not just for the depth of the meaning of grief and death but also for the artistic merit. The piece was conceived and made by sculptor Joseph Hillier and the arts group based around Souter Lighthouse in South Shields. The piece was deliberately made in steel to reflect the material of its container, and marked the 12th. Station of the Cross.

I am not familiar with the Stations of the Cross (being Protestant), but this statue is very evocative of suffering - beautifully presented here.
