The Venerable Bede

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 28 July 2017 in Architecture and Portfolio.

This is the tomb of the Venerable Bede in its own chapel at the rear of Durham Cathedral. Bede is considered to be one of the great fathers of religion and learning in Great Britain, and famously wrote The Ecclesiasticus Brittanicus, a history of the church in Britain at that time. He spent most of his adulthood at the monastery in Jarrow on the banks of the River Tyne having tutored first under the wings of Benedict Biscop at Monkwearmouth.

I didn't realise Bede was buried in Durham. You have captured the lighting very well, Curly.

I'd love to see this place. I have read part the history he compiled (not the original, of course!). He was an important figure in the history of the English people.
