Durham Cathedral nave.

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 29 July 2017 in Architecture and Portfolio.

Durham Cathedral is a World Heritage site and was built in a Romanesque style with construction starting in 1093. It was originally intended as a monastic establishment to house a shrine containing the remains of St. Cuthbert.

These huge columns have a circumference equal to their height - how on earth did they figure that?

Three shot HDR made in Photomatix.

The composition is really well balanced - we find ourselves walking down the aisle. Your cameo histories add so much to these shots.

A beautiful image of the cathedral. I marvel at these great buildings and their builders. Yes, how did they figure out how to build these huge, airy, light filled structures?
