Confessing our sins.

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 6 August 2017 in Architecture and Portfolio.

This is the final picture in this series of internal views of Durham cathedral. In this HDR I did tweak the colour temperature and tint in the Camera Raw filter to produce a slightly different look and feel to the masonry.

I have a HUGE confession to make here - photography, videography, and the use of mobile smartphones is not normally permitted in Durham Cathedral, and certainly NOT for commercial gain. Those who transgress this rule are usually quickly prevented from carrying on by the approaching robed ushers, so when I entered I had not expected to come away with these shots, and did not intend to plan or shoot them! However I saw so many tourists taking pictures with cameras and phones , and it appeared, on this particular Sunday, that nobody was willing to prevent them continuing that I naturally just joined in (on the spur of the moment). I was ever so grateful, and these are probably going to be the only ones that I take in my lifetime, so I left a generous donation on the way out. I apologise profusely for breaking the rules, and look for your forgiveness.

Rules like these are made to be broken Curly especially as you are sharing insight in to a fine building in a complimentary way :)

Beautifully done! I visited Durham Cathedral last autumn and managed to overcome the no-photography rule by striking up a friendly conversation with one of the robed ushers, and lamenting my inability to bring home some visual memory of the Cathedral's beautiful interior. Eventually I suggested that she take a walk around so that she would not be a witness to my taking a few pictures, without flash of course. She very kindly obliged and I got my shots. "Ask and it will be given to you."

A beautiful image made even better by your "transgression". ;-) I've enjoyed this lovely series.

A fine set of images - I don't understand the cathedral's attitude on amateur photographers - I've quite happily paid a fiver in other cathedrals in the country for a pass to take pics.

This is just beautiful! A gorgeous view. This was a wonderful series. I really enjoyed it. I hate to say this but if it was not for you breaking the rules, we would not have been able to see this gorgeous cathedral.
