North West Frontier, The Roman Empire.

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 22 September 2017 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

Despite the fact that it is only a 45 minute drive away, I haven't been to see Hadrian's Wall for many years. This is the view of the ancient Roman Wall, built to protect the Empire from marauding Picts in Scotland as it heads up over the Great Whin Sill overlooking Crag Lough.
Took the long walk from here to go and view that tree (which you will see tomorrow.)

Nice greens. Thought it looked familiar. I wonder if it was also a way to control trade. Did Hadrian have a deal with the Picts?

Roman Empire, controlled the Mediterranean world and almost all of Western Europe, even much of the Great Britain Island. They were the dominators of the world at that time. This one that you show us today must be a penultimate frontier.

It is a great construction site. Thansk for sharing. We expect to see the tree tomorrow (intriguing)

Not such an imposing view nowadays. I like the light and the way you composed this landscape surrounding the wall.

It must have been quite the engineering project in its day. Looks like a great place to spend the day.
