A new adventure - back in time #7

Posted by
Curly (South Shields, United Kingdom) on 8 December 2017 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

The Beamish North of England Open Air Museum is without doubt the greatest and biggest museum experience in North East England. Less than 25 minutes drive from South Shields every building in this museum has been sourced, catalogued, taken apart brick and brick, each part numbered, then rebuilt and reconstituted in an open air environment where everyone can walk around in the past. They have towns, villages, churches, mines, shops, farms, manor halls, a railway station, goods yard, and public transport. All of the old vehicles are lovingly restored and maintained on site in perfect working order, this place needs at least two or three visits to take it all in.

All of the pictures were shot very recently and then I attempted to age and fade them, and even damage them to recreate an authentic early 1900s feel. I hope you enjoy this series.

The village methodist chapel serves as an all round community centre, here the womens knitting circle gathers and chats under the pit banner, whilst the squaddie from the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders is home on leave to see his mother before going off to the front.
